The village of Vadena/Pfatten is surprising for its position. It extends from Bolzano/Bozen to the Kalterer See lake and is located on the edge of the Monte di Mezzo/Mitterberg. Vadena, even if it only has approximately 1,000 inhabitants, is fascinating for its small details. Thanks to the ancient tombs from the late Bronze Age and the early Iron Age, the small area is well known in archaeological circles. Worthy of being seen in Vadena are the two castle ruins on the Monte di Mezzo: the ruin of Laimburg which is located on the pass from Laimburg to the Kalterer See lake and the ruins of Castelchiaro/Leuchtenburg that tower above the lake.
