Törggelen: a South Tyrolean custom
New wine. Autumn delicacies. Chestnuts.
The mountain taverns and inns throw open their doors in the last warm days of a golden autumn so that you can savour the tasty dishes that characterise the traditional „Törggelen“.
„Törggelen“ originates from the grape press and the main event is the tasting of the new wine, known as „Sußer“. You can taste the wine and eat very abundantly, starting with a barley soup, ravioli or a trio of dumplings, followed by homemade sausages, sauerkraut, spare ribs and much more. „Törggelen“ means being together and enjoying the tastes of autumn, which is why home-made pastries and roasted chestnuts are often served for dessert.
