Merano 2000 is a mountain resort area above the city of Merano and the village of Hafling. It is one of the region's premier outdoor destinations and is easily accessible from Merano via a modern cable car that connects the city to the ski area in just a few minutes. Located at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters, the area offers sweeping views of Merano, the surrounding valleys, and the South Tyrolean Alps.
Merano 2000 is an attractive destination year-round. In winter, it is known as a family-friendly ski resort with slopes for beginners and advanced skiers, as well as opportunities for snowboarding and tobogganing. During the warmer months, visitors can explore hiking trails, mountain bike routes, and via ferratas. Thanks to the panoramic views and favorable mountain conditions, the area is also very popular with paragliders.
The resort combines outdoor activities with relaxation amidst alpine scenery. Visitors can enjoy regional specialties in mountain huts and restaurants while admiring the breathtaking landscape. The tourist development of Merano 2000 began in the 20th century with the construction of cable cars and ski lifts that connected the mountain area to Merano. Even today, it remains a popular year-round destination for sports, nature experiences, and leisure activities for both locals and tourists.
